CARTO is an open, powerful, and intuitive platform for discovering and predicting the key insights underlying the location data in our world.
Sign UpWe use a variety of technologies and service providers to deliver the CARTO experience to our users. When you create a map with CARTO, you must provide attribution to both CARTO and any appropriate data providers. Proper attribution is required for every CARTO plan.

We use a variety of basemaps
Attributions for CARTO’s Positron & Dark Matter basemaps, created using derivatives of OpenStreetMap data.

OpenStreetMap® is open data, licensed under the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL) by the OpenStreetMap Foundation (OSMF).

The Data Observatory is a collection of data sources with varying licenses and terms of use. The complete list of data sources and applicable terms is available in our documentation.
For all maps that utilize Twitter’s data connector, you must obey Twitter’s terms of service.
CARTO is an open source project (under a BSD license) which makes use of many different open source technologies. Please check the CARTO GitHub page for more information.
We use a number of providers for geocoding services. Depending on your account details, and how you use the geocoding services, you may utilize one or more of the following providers: Natural Earth, GeoNames (under Creative Commons Attribution 3.0), MaxMind (including GeoLite2 data), HERE, Mapzen, and/or Google.
CARTO provides both Isoline Routing and Isochrones, courtesy of HERE. Whenever you use either of these data types, you must also use a HERE basemap.
In CARTO you can use several icon sets to style markers or patterns. Those icons or images come from different places.

Please be aware of the licenses of both your data and data provided to you by CARTO.
The data you add to your CARTO account is your responsibility. CARTO makes it easy for you to share specific datasets, with others or publicly. You are responsible for ensuring that you have a right to share data before doing so.
Our data library includes many datasets that can help you enhance your maps. Each of these data sets has its own license, which you must respect.
