We’re excited to announce that CARTO’s Agentic GIS is now natively integrated with Google AI Studio and Vertex AI. You can now power geospatial AI Agents and workflows with Google’s world-class models, directly within your existing Google Cloud environment, while staying aligned with your enterprise security and governance.
Agentic GIS is CARTO’s AI-native approach to geospatial analytics, designed to move beyond the limits of traditional GIS systems. Instead of being constrained by complex software or siloed tools, your analytical workflows become interactive and accessible across your entire organization.

These agents are capable of planning and executing multi-step geospatial workflows—like catchment analysis or spatial joins— based on high-level goals provided by business stakeholders in natural language.
- Velocity: Embedded AI Assistants boost the productivity of the GIS analysts by accelerating everyday tasks, from generating spatial SQL and summarizing datasets to building maps and workflows.
- Depth: Thanks to Geospatial Foundation Models trained on vast amounts of spatial data, enabling a deeper understanding and discoverability of spatial patterns and insights.
Now with our new Google AI integrations, you can power CARTO's Agentic GIS using the LLMs you already trust —governed and managed directly in Google AI Studio and Vertex AI.
But it goes a step further.
Through our CARTO MCP Server, you can expose your CARTO workflows as accessible MCP tools. This enables your AI Agents to operate fully where your data is saved in BigQuery, scaling your team’s geospatial expertise across the organization, without ever leaving your secure environment.
For joint Google and CARTO users, this native integration unlocks a powerful, unified workflow. It’s designed to help you:
- AI-powered analytics in your Google environment: Use the models available through Google AI Studio and Vertex AI to run AI-powered geospatial analytics.
- Unified governance & security: Your data never leaves BigQuery. This integration is built to respect all your existing data access policies and security controls implemented in Google Cloud.
- Leverage native BigQuery performance: All spatial processing and computation in CARTO is executed directly in Google BigQuery, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and consistency.
- Composable agentic experiences: Expose your spatial workflows as MCP Tools, allowing AI Agents in CARTO to seamlessly connect to your managed LLMs in your Google AI Studio or Vertex AI environment.
As a Google Cloud Technology Partner, CARTO is built to run natively on Google Cloud, making it easier to embed trusted geospatial intelligence into modern analytics, applications, and AI-driven decision-making at scale.
Select either Google AI Studio or Google Vertex AI on the CARTO AI page in Settings.
Then enter the following configuration details to access AI models directly in your Google Cloud environment:
Google AI Studio:
- API Key
Google Vertex AI:
- Project ID
- Google Cloud Region
- Service Account Credentials (JSON credentials with Vertex AI access)
