What's a "quota unit," exactly?

It's the shared usage metric across CARTO — covering things like workflow runs, map loads, and analytics API calls. Each action has a set weight, so a heavy analytics job costs more units than a simple map view. You can watch consumption in real time from your account dashboard on either plan. Is $0.25/unit the final rate, or does it change with volume?

$0.25/unit is the standard Pay As You Go rate. If your monthly usage is consistently high, a Committed Tier almost always works out cheaper per unit — that's usually the signal it's time to talk about switching, not a hard cutoff you need to plan around.

What actually goes into that ~$90K starting figure?

It reflects a typical first-year Enterprise Tier: a quota sized for one business unit, unlimited users, and standard support. Your number depends on expected usage, deployment (SaaS vs. Self-Hosted), and support level — a specialist can size it properly in one call. Committed Tiers are priced for the enterprise market — if you're a small startup or SMB, we'd recommend starting with Pay As You Go instead.

Can I start on Pay As You Go and move to a Committed Tier later?

Yes, at any time. We migrate your account, data, and configuration over with no disruption to your work.

What do the 1B AI tokens actually cover?

They're the allowance for experimenting with CARTO's AI Agents and AI-assisted building — enough headroom on both plans to prototype real use cases before you need to think about consumption. The 1B tokens are an experimentation allowance, not a production budget — once you've clarified what you want to build, we strongly recommend transitioning to your own models.

Is Self-Hosted only available on Committed Tiers?

Yes. Pay As You Go is Cloud (SaaS) only. If Self-Hosted is a requirement from day one, a Committed Tier is the right starting point.
