Mercado Libre hosts the largest online commerce and payments ecosystem in Latin America. They are present in 18 countries, including: Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Peru and have over 100 million unique active users. At its core, Mercado Libre has an important territorial and geographical dimension. Their people-centric ecosystem consists of two platforms: Mercado Libre, their commerce business, and Mercado Pago, their Fintech. These platforms offer solutions to individuals and companies who are buying, selling, advertising and paying for goods online.

The Challenge

Identify commercial hotspots for market expansion

Mercado Libre sought to implement a Location Intelligence platform to streamline analysis and communication.

The challenge was to identify commercial hotspots and share insights among the Data & Analytics team and Mercado Libre stakeholders.

Results

Seamless cloud-native integration with BigQuery

As BigQuery users, Mercado Libre were able to leverage CARTO’s seamless connection to BigQuery and work with data directly within Google Cloud. 

The convenience of using CARTO’s platform is that the team is able to make use of the Analytics Toolbox for BigQuery to unlock advanced geospatial use cases within a single platform. Consequently, the team can perform various tasks, from data analysis to advanced geospatial analytics, all within one environment; leading to increased efficiency and collaboration between teams.
