Mapbox

Table of Contents

Mapbox is a platform that enables users to create and integrate custom maps into their applications and websites. It provides a range of tools and APIs for map design, geocoding, search, navigation, and data visualization. Mapbox was founded in 2010 by Eric Gundersen and his team in Washington, D.C.

Their geocoding and search services allow conversion of addresses or place names into geographic coordinates and vice versa, as well as facilitating place discovery within maps.

In comparison to CARTO, Mapbox does not connect natively to cloud data warehouses. Data must be uploaded into Mapbox, by UI or API, for processing and analysis.
